Copies of the Response software can also be made for personally owned computers that are used for class preparation or teaching at the purchasing institution.

Does the Response software work with both IR and RF Clickers?
Yes. The Response software works with IR, PRS RF, and Cricket clickers. When you set up your Response Class, you will specify the type of Clickers that will be used in the class. If both RF and IR Clickers are going to be used in the class, you will need to install both an IR Receiver and an RF Receiver. PRS RF and Cricket use the same RF Receiver.

No. The v4 software is not a direct upgrade to Response v5. The Response v5 software was completely redesigned and uses a database structure. You can import Rosters and Lessons from PRS v4 into Response v5.

Can I install both the PRS v4 and Response v5 software on the same computer?
Yes. Since these programs get installed separate directories and do not share the same data directory, you can have both applications installed simultaneously. This may be useful as you are getting familiar with the new software outside the classroom. We recommend that once you start collecting data during in the classroom that you are aware that there is

Can questions, student responses and grades be exported to a data file for use in Microsoft® Excel or one of the course management systems, such as WebCT or Blackboard?

How do I create questions using Response?
Questions can be easily created in several ways. A question authoring tool is included in the Interwrite Response software and has been updated to include an equation editor. The PowerPoint Add-in module provides a way to quickly and easily turn any Microsoft® PowerPoint slide into a Response question slide. The Impromptu mode provides a way to create questions "on the fly" during a Response Session and allows you to use both digital (other applications) and non-digital materials (verbal questions) for formative assessment. Finally, Response seamlessly integrates with Interwrite Workspace and can be used in concert with an Interwrite Board or Pad. Workspace includes over 4,000 digital teaching resources and more than 50 tools for creating, displaying, annotating, organizing, controlling, importing, capturing, recording, and sharing teaching materials.

Can a question be created "on the fly" during a class?
Questions can be created "on-the-fly" during a session by using Impromptu Mode. You can even specify the correct answer which is hidden to students, so the results charts show correct and incorrect responses. This mode allows you to use any applications such as Word or an Internet Browser as a source for questions and Interwrite Response automatically takes a screen capture of the desktop for each question. Impromptu mode is also great for verbal questions.

Can I switch between PowerPoint and Impromptu questions?
Response allows you to switch between any lesson type (Response Lessons Impromptu, ExamView, PowerPoint, Workspace) without having to stop and start the session. This provides the most flexibility of any student assessment system.

Can the results of a question be displayed in "real-time"?
The software provides the option to automatically show a graph of the student responses as soon as the question timer expires or is stopped. Other option settings allow the instructor to show the correct answer for each question or hide the correct answer until after all of the questions have been presented. There is even an option to show the details of the session data including the specific responses by each student.

How do I review the results of a session at a later time?
The Interwrite Response software allows you to review the session data on a per question bases and includes the graph for each question and a screen capture of the actual question asked. You can view individual students responses, change points per question or session. You can also export the results into .CSV file for viewing the data in other applications such as Microsoft® Excel, external grade book application or your Course Management System.

Does the Interwrite Response software have a "summary" feature that allows the instructor to immediately display a question’s results for class discussion?
Yes. Responses can be displayed in a graph format allowing the instructor and students to see the distribution of responses. The "% Correct" & "% Incorrect" value can be selected for each question’s responses, providing additional information for the instructor. The correct answer can be toggled on or off—depending on the instructor’s teaching style. At the end of a question, the instructor can view the details of the responses—who responded and their individual responses—in a tabular format.

Is the Interwrite Response system software and hardware compatible with other Clickers or Receivers? With other software applications?
The Interwrite Response software is proprietary and operates only with the Interwrite PRS RF, Cricket, and IR hardware at this time. The Interwrite Response software is provided at no additional charge to Interwrite hardware users. Response uses XML and CSV file formats to provide a very broad standards-based approach that supports the exchange of Response data with numerous course management systems and grading applications.

In addition, Interwrite Learning publishes a PRS API that makes it possible for software developers to interface their applications with our clickers. A Non-Disclosure agreement must be signed, along with Executive Level approval.

You can also "load in' those answer keys prior to starting the Response session so that the tests are automatically marked as soon you end the session.

Response automatically takes attendance for each session and requires no action by the instructor. A new tab has been added that displays a list of all your students along with each class period so you can quickly and easily determine the days students were absent.

What is the different between the Official Roster and the Pending List?
In order to provide the instructor control over the class roster, we segmented the roster into two parts.

When students join their clicker to the class and are not found in the Official Roster, they are added to the Pending List. All student data gets collected, but only the students in the Official Roster are included in the Gradebook. You add students from the Pending List to the Official Roster at anytime and since all the previous session data is saved, the gradebook will be automatically updated to show all marks for these newly added students.

Can I preload a roster from my Institution?
Yes. You can import student names and student ID’s in to the Roster ahead of time. If you are using PRS RF clickers, when students join the class they will get added to the Pending List the very first time. Simply select the students and merge them into the Official Roster based on the Student ID.

In Response, the session data for students in the Official Roster are automatically marked and added to the Gradebook.

Will Response work with my Learning/Course Management System?
Yes. Response works with Blackboard, Blackboard Vista (WebCT), Angel, and Desire2Learn. We add support for new systems periodically.

How much setup is required before I can start using the Response system?
Setting up the system is minimal. You need to first make sure the Interwrite Response RF Receiver is plugged in and working. We have a new Setup My Hardware function that makes finding the RF Receiver and testing it much easier than in v4. Once the RF receiver is working, you can start collecting data without any additional setup. You can use the default database and the default class. Once you feel comfortable with the software, you can setup your own class and move previous sessions to your new class.
